Vox Sturnus is a vocal collective of creative singers and musicians from the Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Iceland and Denmark with the aim of bringing women in music together around the creative process across age, nationality and musical background. The group comprises of Thora Sveinsdóttir (IS), Maryana Golovchenko (UA), Annie Tångberg (NO), Julia Werner (NL) and Anne Marie Roel Messerschmidt (DK). Previous members are Maaike van der Linde, Margriet Sjoerdsma (NL) and Sanne Huijbregts (NL).

For this reason, the group works creatively to explore and unfold the compositions of individual members or collaboratively to improvise, arrange or give shape to new ideas, resulting in an exciting alchemy of vocal harmonies, delicate string arrangements and various other instrumental features that move within genres such as folk, jazz and the more experimental vocal music.

Most recently, the group has released their debut EP Traveling Light (spring 2026) as a tribute to female artists from their native countries leading them to sing in both Danish, Icelandic and Norwegian. The CD is available for purchase at their concerts.

Vox Sturnus is part of Martin Fondse's Voice Orchestra, a project where a hybrid ensemble of voices and instruments come together on equal terms, and where composition and improvisation are in tune with current events. Martin Fondse's Voice Orchestra presented the repertoire of Diamonds on North Sea Jazz 2025 and has since received a four-star review in de Volkskrant of their performance of Faces of Earth in Tivoli Vredenburg later the same year.

All group members have several years of experience from the professional music scene in their respective countries as well as touring with both ensembles and as soloists. Read more about the individual members here.
